Why Vote for Ajmal ?
Why Vote for Ajmal No. 1
A vote for Ajmal is a vote for:
- positive media attention – my experience and profile will greatly boost interest in Liberal Democrats in mainstream and specialist media
- more representative Liberal Democrats – a vote for me is a clear vote for a more diverse and representative London Assembly
- spreading democracy – I will help connect new and marginalised groups to London politics.
I am a young and influential British Bangladeshi Muslim, who is committed to the promotion of Liberal Democrat values across London. I have a wonderful Hungarian wife and we have a beautiful fifteen months old daughter. I have extensive experience working with London’s diverse communities, supporting the needy and empowering underprivileged and disadvantaged communities. My cross cultural identity and family places me in a good position to represent our cosmopolitan city and able to bring communities together.
Liberal Democrats do not have nearly strong enough a presence in the London, mainstream and specialist media. I have wide-ranging media experience as a broadcast journalist and television presenter, and am regularly asked to contribute to discussions on current socio-political issues. Through this profile and these connections, during the campaign and immediately from being elected to the Assembly I will be able to promote Liberal Democrats in new and noticeable ways across London and more widely. I can be a positive representative of what Liberal Democrats can bring to politics in the twenty-first century.
I bring to London politics dynamism and fresh thinking. Liberal Democrats have never had any ethnic minority Assembly members. This must change - now. 30% of Londoners are from the black and minority ethnic communities. My youthful, passionate and personal approach enables me to reach those people who feel most marginalised from mainstream politics. As a result of my background, my experience and my passion and beliefs I can act as a positive role model for many Londoners who are beyond the reach of more conventional politicians.
I want the chance to promote a London from now until 2012 which is confident, unified and forward-looking.
